Welcome to my Friday’s Rants from the Soap Box in my Living Room. A small space in the week where I can have a chunter about things that have made me twitch with annoyance or made me question if the world has gone mad or not….

This week I have series of mini rants about various things, rather than one long rant on one topic….
People who talk loudly into their phones or to each other, at night in the street: Seriously? Why? We live in an fairly quiet, normal, suburban street, yet people seem to think it is ok, to either walk down the road yelling, either at each other, or into their mobile phones. Last night, some bloke was either calling his wife, or his mother at 12am “I’ll be home in 10 minutes”, but really, he was yelling so loudly, we all knew of his destination and time of arrival, and it woke me up! Also, when you are getting in your car, in a quiet street, late at night, you REALLY DON’T need to have a loud conversation with the person whose house you have just left, or the person in getting in the car with you. I’m sure the type of face cream you use is a marvellous and fascinating topic of conversation but I don’t need to hear it at 11pm at night, as you loudly exit a house, noisily get into your car, shouting away as you go! PIPE DOWN, or I will come out in my pyjamas, with my scary no make up face, and wild bed hair and make you!!
People who don’t blow their noses and sniff and snort on buses: So, I know, sometimes your body decides to go into revolt and cause you to have a runny nose, or sneeze, when you are in public. I’ve been there, you can’t help it. If you happen to be in an enclosed space next to someone who has doused themselves in an entire bottle of the current Z list celebrity perfume brand, I can understand the urge to sniff and sneeze. BUT, when you have just spent ten minutes on the phone, talking to your Mum (yes, the call was that detailed) about how rotten your cold is, and how grim you feel, whilst I am sitting 2 inches away from you, with my child in tow, and then you proceed to sneeze, snort and sniff your germs all over me and the rest of the bus, I AM going to hand you a tissue, tell you to blow your nose, and suggest you keep your rancid virus bug to yourself. Need I say more??
CBeebies changing their schedule: REALLY? REALLY? For weeks, months, now, in fact, we have had a good routine going. Small Boy wakes up early, and comes into our room, and snuggles up with us. When it’s time to get up, I supply him with our BlackBerry Playbook, and put an episode of Octonauts on. This gives me precisely 10 minutes to get dressed, sort my hair and start putting make up on so I don’t frighten anyone on the school run with my puffy eyes and pale face. (2.5 years of chronic sleep deprivation does not do your looks any good, I can tell you) and because Octonauts is on every day at a certain time, I know I can download the previous days episode, and he will happily watch it, peace reigns and the day starts smoothly, but Cbeebies have apparently decided to change their schedule, and now Octonauts is no more! I have a bereft Small Boy (he adores Octonauts, it is his favourite programme, I quite like it too, actually, Go Captain Barnacles!) and nothing else will do! I had to resort to pulling up short clips of episodes on YouTube, which didn’t work as well! Why do they change things? We LOVE Octonauts! Bring BACK Octonauts!!
Those are my rants for the week. I know I sound UBER grumpy. I am tired, we have had little sleep this week, and I am now actually working 3 full mornings a week, which has been a bit of a shock to my system (I will update on this, when the time is right, there are some changes that are happening with the House of Mad Cats and Babies) and I am looking forward to the weekend. I will be back to my sunshiney self next week!
