Sleep deprivation is a special kind of torture, that’s why it’s so effective. Parents need to feel supported not patronised.

Thank you! I think the more of us who share, and are open about it, the more women will see that it’s ok to be honest and ask for help and maybe, just maybe, the system will start to change and the support new Mums get will improve. I’m sorry you had such an awful time, appalling really, given that you should have been on the radar, and been looked after, not just made to feel worse and inadequate! ?

And there is so much in this post that I could have written myself. I was promised so much extra support because of my history with long-term depression. I didn’t receive any of it. Instead, I was made to feel like I should be doing better and trying harder. If I had my time as a new mum again, I would do things differently. I would not put so much pressure on myself and I would know that just loving my baby was enough. This is a brilliant post and you may have inspired me to share my own story too (I hope you don’t mind). Hugs Mrs H xxxx
