Well done and I would probably have done the same and in fact I have told off children staying in the gite who have not treated Saari in an acceptable way. Although Saari is incredibly gentle I know she can be spooked and I cannot, 100% vouch, that she would not snap when suddenly poked by some-one or climbed upon. But how sad too, that the children both did this AND didn’t tell the adult with them exactly why they got told off. A great post to add to #AnimalTales – thank you.

yep i would have done the same thing, we live in Dubai where it can get very hot (obviously we don’t walk our dog in the height of summer) but i keep him on a short leash and tell kids and adults to wait before approaching him, even though he’s a friendly dog, then i sit down with Bob and let the kids stroke him

I try to teach my children to treat animals well. If the parents don’t, then who will?

You did the right thing. I would have told them not to do it too. The mother was in the wrong to steam in at you like that. Even if she wasn’t happy there are ways of approaching that, much easier and less confrontational to say something like ‘My children say you were telliing them off, why was that?’

Well done Karen. It’s not easy to strike the right balance when confronting strangers (let alone their kids). Having the courage to also explain this to them will hopefully mean they have more consideration for animals in future. Warm Regards, Mike

I think you did the right thing. I would have been upset to see that, too. Good for you for standing up for the poor doggie. I’m sure he (or she) was grateful to you!
