Our youngest cat, Lucy, does something similar but right before bed. It seems like the waking up and the going to bed are the times for them to be crazy! ;)
With Lucy, we think it's mostly just pent up energy that she needs to expel before we go upstairs. She starts acting strange right around the time that my son is being put down for his bed time (which is super helpful to us, of course!). Maybe for your Layla, it's something similar - maybe she is sensing the day is starting and she's getting you all up and moving! ;)

Henry used to do something similar although without the miaowing. He would skid round the house downstairs ...and upstairs if the door was open and then stop as soon as he started. For a cat who normally showed minimal emotion this was very out of character! Not sure if that helps you though. So how did googling "Cat therapists" turn out? #AnimalTales

Our cat did this after a house move, she was stressed and needed quite a lot of reassurance from us and far more time than we’d given her before. The vet suggested we played with her for 10-15 minutes 2-3 times a day and we bought a new scratch pole. #animaltales
