Let’s talk collagen. That buzzy little word you see everywhere – powders, drinks, gummies – but what actually is it, and why does everyone suddenly start banging on about it during menopause?
In simple terms, collagen is the protein that keeps us looking (and feeling) held together. It supports skin, joints, hair, nails, bones… basically all the bits that start creaking when you hit your 40s. Lovely.
The catch? From our mid-20s onwards, our natural collagen production starts to slow down. Then menopause rocks up and really speeds things along, thanks to falling oestrogen levels. Cue dry skin, fine lines, achy joints, weaker hair and nails, and that general “why do I feel like I aged overnight?” vibe.
According to NHS, menopause can affect everything from skin elasticity to joint comfort – which makes total sense when you realise collagen is involved in all of it.
This is where supplements might help. A good collagen supplement gives your body extra building blocks to work with, which can support skin hydration, elasticity, and joint health. Many women also notice stronger nails, less hair shedding, and fewer random aches after a few weeks of taking it regularly.
Is it a magic wand? No. (If only.) But think of it like giving your body a helping hand when it’s clearly going through enough already.
Top tip: collagen works best alongside vitamin C (it helps absorption), plus staying hydrated and eating decent protein. And consistency matters – this isn’t a “take once and glow” situation.
Menopause already brings hot flushes, brain fog, mood swings, and sleep chaos. If a simple daily scoop of collagen can help your skin feel less like parchment and your joints complain a bit less while you juggle cats, kids, work and life… honestly, I’ll take it.
Because at this stage? We deserve all the support we can get.
And a source of support for me is Naked Nutrition Collagen Powder

“Naked Collagen has only one ingredient: Bovine hide collagen peptides sourced from pasture-raised cows in Europe. It is odorless, tasteless, and easy to mix in with your favorite drinks. Each serving includes 9 grams of protein and only 35 calories.
Naked Collagen is free of additives and artificial sweeteners. We are committed to shortening the steps between our farms and you. Don’t let the supplement industry fool you; additives are for their bottom line, not your health.”
I am fairly fussy about what I put in my body, particularly as I navigate the ups and downs of menopause whilst juggling life and I prefer supplements and the food I eat to be sourced well and not full of weird or unnecessary ingredients. I love using this collagen supplement as a daily source of nutrition, in my smoothie or in my morning breakfast bowl. It’s easy to use, does’t have a weird aftertaste that some collagen and other protein supplements can have and it goes into smoothies or juice or yoghurt and you can’t tell it’s there. I have heard you can put your collagen supplement in your coffee too, according to social media, but I am afraid as much as I enjoy this particular collagen supplement, I probably am not brave enough to change my coffee routine, I will stick to adding it to my breakfast. It’s soy free, and contains pure grass fed collagen peptides.
Cost wise in comparison to other supplements it’s competative and Naked Nutrition pride themsleves on their quality ingredients and process of creating their powders and suplements so you are getting value for money.
So, if like me, you are finding your body needing that extra little bit of help, particualrly in the menopause stage of life, then it’s worth a try. If you decide to pop it in your coffee, do let me know how it goes, maybe I will be convinced that’s a way to take it, one day, too.
