Friday’s Rant From the Soap Box in MY Living Room – think don’t click

Welcome to my Friday’s Rants from the Soap Box in my Living Room. A small space in the week where I can have a chunter about things that have made me twitch with annoyance or made me question if the world has gone mad or not….

My rant this week is aimed at people who STILL click on dodgy links in e-mails, when they should know better!

Dear People

PLEASE STOP CLICKING ON DUBIOUS LOOKING LINKS IN E-MAILS!

If you get a funny looking mail, from someone you know, or someone unfamiliar, and it says “hey, look at this, you need to click this link, I did” or something similar, DON’T CLICK IT. The  person who’s mail it came from, has clicked on it, it’s spam, or a virus, and it has gotten into their e-mail address book and has sent the mail onto everyone and or, infected their computer with a virus. If you click on it, it will do the same to all the people in your e-mail address book and the chain continues…

The link is either porn, adverts for Viagra or drugs of it’s ilk, or dodgy “make money quick” scams, or won’t work, because it is not meant to, once you have clicked on it, it is already in your system. None of them are safe, and it’s VERY ANNOYING that people still click and share and we all get rubbish in our mail boxes. I had 9 mails this week, from people who clearly had clicked. The link sent was clearly dodgy. Really people, THINK, DON’T click.

Oh, and while you are at it, for the love of internet safety, EVERYONE should have up to date, reputable, and working virus protection, a basic firewall and scanning software on their pc or laptops. I am astounded that people still don’t and have the internet streaming into their laptops and computers with absolutely no protection at all, and all their data and information, and their system is open to attack. It’s not hard to install Norton, or similar software, and the cost is worth the protection. Not having protection on your pc or laptop is like driving without a licence, if you store data, photos, use online banking, or use your bank cards online your information could be at risk, and if someone with less than good intentions is able to access that information, you are in serious trouble. It happens a lot, it could happen to you.

That is all. Thank you for reading my rant, now THINK, DON’T CLICK!
