If your beautiful baby is fast turning into a fun-loving toddler, it might be time to think about transforming their newborn nursery into a bedroom suitable for an inquisitive toddler. Giving your child a space of their own that they can enjoy alone or with family and friends is a rite of passage that will make them feel all grown up. Here are some tips for creating a toddler’s room for those of you who are ready to take the plunge:
Involve Your Child
If your child is able to speak, he or she is also able to let you know what they like, and you should get them involved in the room redecorating process. Obviously, if you can’t necessarily let them get their own way on everything, otherwise you might end up with a ceiling full of Sesame Street characters and walls covered in crayon etchings, but you shouldn’t dismiss what they want just because it isn’t to your taste either – compromise is key!
Choose a Theme
Ask your child to specify a few of the things they love, and would like to see in their room. This could be anything from puppies and unicorns to Pirates of transformers! Then pick one of their favorite things to form the basis of your child’s room theme.
If you’re the type that firmly believes less is more, you can incorporate the theme into the room, without taking it over, by adding framed pictures of princess or whatever, and painting the room in pinks and purples, rather than having a full-scale mural on the wall or something equally as tacky, and your toddler will still love it.
Consider the Future
Although some kids will be happy to have their favorite cartoon character on the walls until they’re 13, other children will want to get rid of any signs of childishness as soon as they hit 10 or 11, which is why it pays to consider the future when creating a toddler’s room.
The simplest solution would be only to add character touches that are easily removable, such as wall decals, framed photos, and toys, instead of incorporating them directly into the decorate That way, when your child feels all grown up, you can simply remove them without having to redecorate the whole room.
Comfy Bedding
Toddlers need comfy bedding. It will help them snuggle up and get to sleep of an evening much more easily than cheap uncomfortable bedding. Down comforter sizes vary from king size to toddler bed size, so this is a good option, providing your child is not allergic, and it will last for a long time, so that you do not have to replace quite so often, too.
Toddler bedding should also be fun. It is a great non-permanent way to add in unicorns, princesses or pirates to the room, so don’t be boring and buy them some colorful character covers!
Safety
When creating a toddler bedroom, you should also take safety into consideration and ensure that any furniture is firmly fixed to the walls to avoid the risk of an accident. You should also avoid buying bedding or accessories with small parts to keep your kids safe! Style matters but safety comes first!
