We recently tried out Gelli Baff for some sensory play fun. I have written about sensory and messy play on our blog before, and how I love to facilitate both for my kids and the children I work with. I am always on the lookout for resources to help either at home or at work.
“From birth, children are exploring their senses and processing new information. They begin to make sense of the world around them as they grow through the exploration of new textures, materials, and resources. Sensory play is a valuable way of engaging children in activities that will heighten their senses and enrich their learning.
Is sensory play really that important?
Yes! Sensory play encourages discovery and independent thinking, as well as inspiring imagination and creativity. Research shows that there are many different ways in which sensory play can benefit a child’s development and learning.” From Early Years Resources
Gelli Baff is a fabulous non-toxic, easy to make, fun bath gel that makes bathtime or sensory play a lot of fun.
It comes in lots of fun colours and you can use it in the bath, or in a big messy play tray for hours of sensory play.
Gelli Baff is a totally unique fun bath time product that lets you turn water into goo and back again! By adding Gelli Baff powder to water, you can create a thick colourful goo. By simply adding a second ‘dissolver’ powder, the goo turns back to coloured water to be drained away safely and easily.
Slime Baff turns your bath water into a gooey, oozy bath of slime. By just adding more water, the slime can be diluted into coloured water that can be safely drained away.
Easy to make up and completely safe to use, it’s perfect for kids to play with (and it has to be said adults too, I am very tactile and love playing with things like this) and you can use as much or as little as you want depending on if you are filling the bath or smaller container for play.
It works really well, follow the instructions to make up the Gelli and then let the kids loose to play. It also can be diluted with water until it is fully dissolved and then washed away.
We have had a lot of fun using it at the toddler groups I run for our messy and sensory play weekly sessions and because it’s easy to make and totally safe, I know the kids are playing with something they can enjoy but I can also reassure parents that it’s not toxic or harmful.
My kids also enjoy playing with it at home too, and it’s great for rainy days when I need to pull something out that is calming and also good for some gentle sensory play. It also comes in colour change form and scented versions too.
Gelli Baff makes a great stocking filler or gift idea and if like me you work with children, it’s definitely worth having a supply in your craft cupboard to pull out when you need an easy messy play idea that will work really well. It’s available here if you want to get your hands on some
