Welcome to our homeschool week and how I plan and work with our son to home educate him. If you follow us on our Facebook or Instagram you will know that whilst I have one child in school, I also home educate our son. This is how we do it.
Last week we wrote about how our art lessons had come to an unexpected end. It was a little unplanned for but fortunately we had someone recommend an art group locally ish to us and we are off there tomorrow for a trial run lesson to see if he likes it. I am hoping he does, because he really enjoys his art work and it would be a shame if we couldn’t facilitated that.
He also has a ballet exam this week, in person, at the Royal Academy of Dance in London, which is very exiciting as it’s been well over two years since we were there thanks to Covid. So we are getting all prepped for that. He will be doing his Grade 4 exam. He’s then going to be taking some vocational RAD classes as we work out where his dance life takes him.
So this week our week looks like this:
Monday – he has a maths tutor session, then a violin lesson. He comes with me to my work and I will set him up with some independent work on WW1 and some biology. We will then go off to his art class trial and see how he gets on.
Tuesday – he has some time with a friend and some work to take with him, and a ballet class
Wednesday – we are off to Kew Gardens to see the orchids. A favourite thing of mine. We take work with us, and find a quiet spot to do it, then we will explore and enjoy the gardens and orchids. He also has ballet in London which we will head off to.
Thursday – ballet exam day. No work, just focus on keeping calm and doing his exam. He also has Scouts in the evening, which he loves and is great for his social life.
Friday – Dad is in charge of science and then we do some other subjects. He has a swimming lesson in the afternoon too.
Saturday – it’s a busy morning. He has a French lesson, ballet and gymnastics then a playdate with a friend in the afternoon.
Sunday – we are having a Sunday lunch with a group of people I cook for and the family joins us. I find events where he has to spend time with people older, younger and from different backgrounds is great for his socialisation skills and far better than the usual expectations of school and a class of his peers.
He’s asked if we can look at him doing the Food tech GCSE so I have ordered the books and kit we need to do that, and we will start to work on that, as he loves cooking and it’s a great subject to study.
We are also planning some visits to supplement his WW1 learning as well.
And that’s our homeschool week.
It certainly keeps us both busy.
Good luck with the new art group and the ballet exam. It sounds like you have a great week planned x
