What IS the point of Mosquitoes?

What IS the point of Mosquitoes?

Before this post goes any further, I would like to point out that it’s not a science or medical post and if you did happen to have information to show me that there is SOME point to mosquitoes I would be grateful to hear it.

I have lived all over the world, in countries with all sorts of exotic and biting beasties, including mosquitoes, and dealt with bites and stings and when I came back to the UK to live, a long time ago, I thought I had escaped that.

But no…

mosquitoes

We get mosquitoes in the UK and not only that over 30 types of them…

And apparently they all live in my house…

And they love me and bite me a lot and I hate them.

Not only that, but it seems that I am ALLERGIC to the bites and each time I get bitten, the result is an angry red welt that takes days to calm down, itches like crazy and have on occasion needed a trip to get medication to help me deal with them. I currently have a realm of things I use to ease the biting, from a bug zapper, to bite cream.

At least most mosquitoes in the UK don’t spread malaria or dengue fever, I suppose it could be worse but it does feel rather strange to live in South West London, in a country where I would hardly describe the weather as tropical, and be getting more bites from mosquitoes than I did when I lived in warmer countries.

If anyone can tell me what use, or purpose these nasty, biting little buggers have, I would be delighted to hear it, but frankly, they can BUZZ OFF! The BBC had an interesting article on the increasing numbers of them, in the UK, recently.

But frankly, they can buzz off, rather than buzzing around my room at night and making me their choice of picnic meal…

This was a Friday Rant. It’s my blog and I will rant if I want to…

  1. Sadly I’ve no idea. They’ve never really bothered me, but they do like to feast on my husband
Thanks for joining in with #pocolo and hope to see you back later this week
